Volunteers & Working with Children
Volunteers, Police Checks, Reporting Abuse & Neglect
It is a DECD requirement that all adults who will work with students in a voluntary capacity attending camps, doing LAP, coaching a sports team, working with groups as part of an elective program etc. undergo a Criminal History Check. We are happy to photocopy any documents for you here at school.
In the past, a variety of other clearances were accepted by DECD for volunteers. However, in 2014 this changed.
THE ONLY CLEARANCE DECD WILL NOW ACCEPT FOR VOLUNTEERS IS THE DCSI SCREENING UNIT’S “CHILD RELATED EMPLOYMENT SCREENING CHECK (also applicable to volunteers)”.
NPS has created a budget line to cover these police checks for our volunteers, so if you are considering volunteering at the school in any capacity, please contact the front office staff for these forms.
A police check is valid for three years.
Volunteers are also required to attend Reporting Abuse and Neglect training. Sessions are run by the school several times each year.
